Editorial Policy

This website publishes plain-language guides about the Diversity Visa (DV) lottery and related Green Card topics. It is for information only. It is not affiliated with the U.S. government, does not give legal advice or consultations, does not accept entries, and does not offer application services.

What this website does

  • Summarizes official instructions, rules, and notices in everyday language.
  • Explains common scams and where to report them.
  • Points readers to the official sources for every decision that matters.

What this website does not do

  • It does not submit entries or fill out forms for anyone.
  • It does not charge fees or take payments for entries, results, or visas.
  • It does not promise selection, approval, or a better chance of winning. Selection is random.
  • It does not replace the advice of a licensed immigration attorney for a personal situation.

Sources

Facts about program rules come from primary sources: the annual Diversity Visa instructions published by the Department of State in the Federal Register, rules and notices of the Department of State, USCIS pages, and consumer advice from the Federal Trade Commission. A guide that depends on a program year names that year. Secondary sources, such as law firm blogs, are not used as the basis for a rule.

Updates and dates

Each guide shows the date it was last updated, and guides that describe rules, fees, or deadlines end with a "Last verified" line and a list of sources. The rules change each year, so the current official instructions always control. When this website cannot confirm a detail, such as the dates of an entry period, it says so instead of guessing.

Independence

Government agencies do not review, endorse, or sponsor this website. The official entry site named in the instructions is dvprogram.state.gov. Only addresses that end in .gov are official government websites.

Corrections

A reader who finds an error or an outdated statement can report it through the contact page. Corrections are made to the guide itself, and the update date changes with them.
